Regional Medical Travel Within Asia

Sen Lam, of Radio Australia, recently interviewed Ana Nicholls, author of “Travelling for Health“, a report prepared by The Economist Intelligence Unit.  According to Nicholls, most medical travel in Asia is intra-regional rather than originating in Europe and North America.  For example, approximately 65% of medical travel to Malaysia, Nicholls claims, involves Indonesians seeking access to care.  Nicholls describes expansion of Asian economies and increased wealth within Asian countries as important factors in proliferation of private, for-profit health care facilities within such countries as China, India, and Malaysia.
