Health Officials in Australia Recommend Screening Incoming Patients for NDM-1

According to The Sydney Morning Herald, microbiologists in Australia are recommending that hospitals in Australia screen for NDM-1.  Public health officials there are concerned that without adequate screening and infection control measures, NDM-1 will spread from patients admitted with NDM-1 to the larger hospital population.  To date, four individuals with NDM-1 have been identified in Australia.  Health officials there anticipate that additional individuals will be identified as NDM-1 spreads around the world.
