The Global Body Bazaar

Scott Carney’s forthcoming book, The Red Market: On the Trail of the World’s Organ Brokers, Bone Thieves, Blood Farmers, and Child Traffickers, is scheduled for release May 31st.  A reporter, Carney uses his investigative skills and considerable knowledge of India to explore and critique the transnational market for human organs and tissues.  Publishers Weekly has a short interview with Carney, Wired offers an image-heavy, analysis-light sampler, and Carney’s blog explains what he means by the phrase, “red market”.  Carney challenges claims that all parties benefit from red market transactions and draws attention to the global socioeconomic disparities upon which market is built.
