Greg Mortenson, author of Three Cups of Tea and Stones into Schools, offers a response to allegations that events described in his books and lectures never occurred. ┬áDefending both his work building schools for girls in Afghanistan as well as the books that have made him famous, he blames David Oliver Relin, co-author of Three Cups of Tea, for narrative license. Both 60 Minutes and Jon Krakauer, in Three Cups of Deceit, raise disturbing questions about Mortenson’s work in Afghanistan and the financial management of his non-profit organization, Central Asia Institute. Before these critiques appeared Mortenson enjoyed tremendous public support for his efforts promoting community-based education for young women in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
